Rock on
Most people assume that I am a fan of country music. Why wouldn't they? I am short, pasty white, blonde...and I live at the Edge of the Great Woods. Most people in this area ARE strict CM fans. I would be the exception.
While I will cop to being familiar with The Watermelon Crawl, Swingin' and Bus Songs by Toby Keith, most country music makes me cringe. One or two twangs from Miss Reba herself tends to send me pretty close to the edge. I believe that it is high time we cleared things up.
Needless to say, I am thrilled that Tiff has instructed me to bare my musical soul. Some are old favorites, some are purely sentimental, some are loved for the poetry, and others are simply loved for the fact that they are bizarre.
This is by no means a full list, as my music tastes are generally guided by whatever mood I happen to be in at the time. It would appear that I am currently schizophrenic.
Per the instructions, I have named 7 songs that I am 'in' to, in no particular order. While this is was really fun, it was also incredibly difficult.
1. Luv Addict - Family Force Five: Simply a great song. Head bang worthy, and you can scream it. What's not to like?
2. The Fairy Tale of New York - The Pogues: Ah, yes. Christmas Eve in the Drunk Tank! This one is simple: Christmas music + Irish music + insults! A total classic.
3. You Might Think - The Cars: Duh. Ric Ocasek! Anything written by this man is considered gold. This man has always been on my Nerd Rock Crush List. (It's in my head, people. It's not like I write these things down. Anymore...)
4. Language or the Kiss - The Indigo Girls (lyrics): Simply put? Poetry.
5. The Mud Kids - Rod McKuen (lyrics) : Spoken word about the hippies of the 70's. "We can't all be Batman to the Robins of the world. Some of us want more out of life than an all purpose, super duper utility belt..."
6. No Sleep Til Brooklyn - Beastie Boys: Dudes. This album just turned 21! Where has all the time gone?! Adam and the boys were so...YOUNG in this video! This is one of my favorite anger/stress relief songs.
7. Be My Escape - Relient K : Lovelovelove this group! This is a great 'get out of a funk' song. Best line? "The beauty of grace is that it makes life not fair..."
So there you have it, people. Crunks, drunks, new wave, folk, beatnik, rap and punk. Not a twang in the bunch.
***I am supposed to tag seven of you to do this. I am leaving you to your own devices, as I am now addicted to You Tube. I have now watched Avril Lavigne's Girlfriend in six different languages. Must. See. MORE!***

I must be out of touch...I don't think I can name ANY songs that aren't country or Christian. Maybe a few REALLY older rock tunes.....hmmmmm....
Are any of them like The Beatles?
Actually, I'm so out of it I have no business even commenting. So I'll just go now. Pretend I didn't say anything.
The Beastie Boys AND The Cars? We be kindred spirits, I do believe. Yep yep.
I love the Beastie Boys and the Pogues. I like older country music, like Johnny Cash and Patsy Cline. Contemporary country music is actually pop music in a cowboy hat! LOL.
I definitely agree with you about country music, although I do like some old-fashioned bluegrass. Reba send me changing the station or the channel, for sure.
On the other hand, I recognize nothing on your list....LOL
Dude, you slay me. I must get going on this one, before Tiff gets anxious.
Ric Ocasek married Paulina Porizkova, forever changing the life outlook for geeks like me.
Thank you. Thank you, Rick Ocasek.
I so love this list. Loves it!
The play list at the house party that some day will have is going to be smokin hot.
As long as we can play "Fiesta" - yes, the one by the Pogues.
I love the music video of "You Might Think" and I'm somehwhat fond of the song itself, Renn. I've listened to The Cars since I first heard them in 1978.
HOORAY FOR BEASTIE BOYS!
