Merry Christmas

Every once in a while, something happens that stops me short.  Usually, it's something that causes rage, or disgust - or even horror.  This morning, however, it was something completely different.

Every year, for whatever reason, the first presents under the tree are to Chachi and me, from Nooze.  She LOVES Christmas, gift giving, and creativity.  This year, of course, was no different.  The first present under the tree was a large one - to ME, from her.  She made sure that it was one of the last gifts I opened.

The note on the outside simply said, in ten year old scrawl, "I know that Puppy has chewed up the pillow that Nana made you.  So this is for you.  Love, Nooze."  I had no idea what to expect, since the package was heavy and hard.  When I opened it, however, I burst into tears.

Inside the wrapping paper, nestled neatly with cracks and chips and leaded paint?  The ceramic bank that my parents gave to me when I was ten years old. I gave it to Nooze a few years ago, because she liked the colors and shape.  It has been sitting on her shelf, all but forgotten, since then.

It just goes to show, I suppose, that money, extravagance and "bling" don't have to be a part of the holiday season.  It's knowing your family, loving them, and understanding exactly what they need to make things right again.

Merry Christmas to you and yours.

Much love,

Rennratt
