We've been together awhile...

[Yes, this really took place -Ed.]

While driving home from Raleigh a few weeks ago, we drove into It. You know IT: the unbearable stench that appears without notice, without cause. It seeps through closed windows, air vents - and into your clothes and sinuses. The smell nearly blinds you. Your eyes water, your throat fills, your nose runs.

Catching his breath, Chachi said, "Ya know what this smells like?"

"What?", I asked.

"Remember back home? That cemetery by the mill?"

"Yes!"

"It smells just like the cemetery after a hard rain. Mixed with low tide!"

Sadly, it made perfect sense to me.

Mmmm, dead things. Good for so much, including as a diet aid.

Ew. Is this a recurring problem with cemetaries down there?

I try to stay out of cemeteries after a hard rain. Now I know why.

Y'all - Chachi and I are both from Northern Maine. The cemetary is near a paper mill. Dead things, frost heaves and paper pulp after a hard rain = rotten eggs 'n' more!

I'm guessin' Renn passed a road-ready flat snack on the way home that reeked to high heaven. Fortunately, some fellers in a pickup truck were due anyminnit to pick 'er up and git 'er done!

Tasty!

There's a farm between where I live and where I work and the hog waste pool is right near the road. Everytime they refill it I have to hold my breath while going by. That **** reeks!
