Today...Updated

I just received a call from my sister. My mother has taken a turn for the worse, and has had a tube put down her throat. They are not sure if it is her heart reacting to the medicine, or if she has a clot. I will let you know more as I hear more. -renn

As many of you know, October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. What many of you do NOT know, however, is that my mum is a Breast Cancer survivor.

She had her first mastectomy eleven years ago. Today, she will have her second.

She is a fighter. She is a force to be reckoned with. She is my mother, and she will win again.

As you go through your day today, do me a favor. Call your moms. Call your sisters. Call your daughters. Tell them how much you love them. How much you appreciate them. How much you want them to LIVE.

Encourage them to commit to self examinations every month. EVEN IF THEY THINK IT'S WEIRD. Encourage them to visit their OB-GYN for their annual exam...even if they think it's a pain.

If they use the age card, tell them to watch Lifetime tonight. "Why I Wore Lipstick to My Mastectomy" will be on. It is a true story (see book above). The author was 27 when she was diagnosed. It is NEVER too early.

Do me another favor, if you would. Keep my Mum in your thoughts and prayers.

I will pray for your mum! Please update to let us know she is okay. And that YOU are okay.

(P.S. I saw Geralyn's story on 20/20 last week and it was VERY interesting!)

I'm with you on this, Renratt. It's never too early to take precautions. Nor too old.

My mom has had three biopsies and a minor lumpectomy (it turned out to be benign). Since 6 of my aunts have had breast cancer and my grandmother died at 42 from it, I harp about this constantly! Glad to hear someone else on my soapbox. :P
