Luuuucy, I'm Hoooome!
The return trip was uneventful, and we have safely returned home.
Gone are the black flies, the chiggers, the swarms of horse flies. Also gone are the moderate temperatures, which averaged somewhere in the realm of 70-75. Ditto the nearly invisible humidity factor, and the non-existent heat index.
We have successfully re-entered the world of Code Orange days, which are not fit for children, animals or the elderly. We are also facing temperatures in the 90s, with a humidity factor somewhere in the high 80s.
I opened my back door this morning - and broke out into a sweat.
Oh, how I have missed you, North Carolina!
I'm off to bake a spaghetti dinner - and a southern version of Whoopie Pie Brownies. When that is underway, I shall proceed to drink my weight in Sweet Tea, as it doesn't exist in Maine.
When I am properly rested, I shall tell you of our adventures in the Black Fly State.

Welcome back - have a good meal (I'm gonna want that recipe for whoopie pie brownies - whoopie pies are my absolute favorite EVER)
Glad you're home! Enjoy that sweet tea. Yum!!!
We in NC missed you too, Renn. And now it's the black flies that are missing you...
We missed you, Renn! I can't wait to hear about it and I'd like a face to face version soon! Lunch?
"bake spaghetti dinner" Huh?
you bake spaghetti?
do tell.
Also, what is a whoopie pie brownie?
AND, Lordy, I hate me some chiggers.
Welcome home....
JC
Baked spaghetti rocks.
So does sweet tea.
I can feel my blood sugar level going up just even talking about it....
If one opens one's door after 6 a.m. in the summer in NC, one is almost guaranteed to break out in a sweat.
It is a law, I think.
However, unless I'm terribly mistaken, the sweatinees is almost better than mosquitos the size of pets and black flies in swarms so thick you can swim in them. Ewwwwww.
Glad you're back A-OK.
Hey! Welcome home! I've held down the sweaty fort over mountain for you. Hot and awfully humid.
I once tried to move to Ithaca New York (lasted 10 weeks ). I knew I was screwed when I tried to order iced tea (red zinger, not even The. Real. Thing.) and the waiter gave me the blank stare and asked me to repeat.
I though he just couldn't understand my accent but it turned out he had no concept of ICED teas. I said, "its brewed tea with sugar and ice in it - doh!" and the light bulb went off. He brought me a tea bag in a glass of ice water.
